Get To Know Your Orange Man - No. 30, LB Parris Bennett

Get To Know continues with one of Syracuse’s pleasant surprises last year on the defensive side of the ball.

Position: Outside Linebacker

Year: Junior

Weight: 208 lbs.

Hometown: Detroit, Mich.

High School: University of Detroit Jesuit

2015 Stats: Bennett started the first eight games for the Orange prior to missing the last four with an injury. In the eight games he had 44 tackles, including a career-high 13 at Virginia. Also had an interception against Wake Forest.

2016 Projections: Bennett is listed as the starter at weak side linebacker for the Orange in the post spring depth chart. Interestingly enough he is listed ahead of Marquez Hodge, who has been a starter for the past two seasons.

How’d He Get Here?: Bennett chose the Orange over Pittsburgh, Akron and Bowling Green. According to Nate Mink, Bennett developed a strong relationship with former Syracuse linebacker Cam Lynch on his visit to Syracuse.

Money Quote: Bennett was quoted by’s Nate Mink before he arrived on campus as a freshman:

“We’re all family, but we all want to play,” Bennett said. “There are only so many spots on the field at once. I enjoy it. I think it will push all of us to be better.”

What Does Babers Think of Him?: Not much, but in this interview with’s Stephen Bailey he said this of the outside linebackers:

“The outside linebackers can be heavier, ‘ramrod-type guys,’” Babers said.

Interesting Nugget O’Nugget: Bennett and fellow linebacker, Zaire Franklin committed to Syracuse at the same time and will start side-by-side for the second straight year.
