Let's take a look at a locally-grown Syracuse walk-on.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Joe Stanard

Position: DB

Year: Senior

Height: 5'10''

Weight: 196

Hometown: Baldwinsville, N.Y.

High School: C.W. Baker

2015 Stats: He did not play in any games last season. He was, however, selected to the ACC Honor Roll and the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

2016 Projections: Joe's listed on the depth chart at strong safety as a fourth-stringer, behind sophomores Kielan Whitner, Rodney Williams, and Daivon Ellison.

How'd He Get Here?: He walked-on, choosing SU for academics. Stanard is a forensic science major.

What'd Recruiting Sites Say?: Not listed. Stanard had offers from Wagner and Jacksonville as well as D-III school Baldwin-Wallace and powerhouse Mt. Union.

Money Quote: About walking on at the school he grew up a fan of:

"It's a cool feeling, growing up and watching those guys and then being able to play at Syracuse," Stanard said. "I grew up wanting to be like them, now I get a chance to do the same thing."

Links of Wonder: Here's a nice story from Syracuse.com which contains the above quote from Stanard's initial push to walk on at SU.

Tweets of Wonder:

Interesting prediction of another a Kevin Durrant Lebron-esque story.

What Does the Coaching Staff Think of Him?: Walk-ons have to impress someone enough to end up on the squad so he's probably cool with him.

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Was high school teammates with fellow Syracuse walk-on Eric Anthony.
