Erstwhile Syracuse Sharpshooter Demetris Nichols Wins Euroleague Championship

It's Demetris, not Demetrius.

For the last two years, former Syracuse Orange forward Demetris Nichols has been playing professional basketball for PBC CSKA Moscow. In just his second season with the team, the 31 year old Nichols won the Euroleague championship with CSKA which was the team's first championship since 2008.

Although he only played a total of six seconds in the team's win over Fenerbahce in the championship game, Nichols secured the game's final rebound just before celebration began. Nichols suffered a broken foot in what is considered the Euroleague's Sweet 16 which limited his playing time. Prior to injury, Nichols averaged roughly 13 minutes per game, scoring 4.9 points per contest on 44 percent shooting from outside.

CSKA was led by Nando de Colo who had a short stint with the San Antonio Spurs and an even shorter stint with the Toronto Raptors. Nichols was only signed to a one year contract this season so he will have a chance to resign, play elsewhere. He might have the opportunity to be the ringer for Boeheim's Army in TBT. No, not the comedy with Johnny Knoxville.

Check the highlights from the championship game below. D-Nic makes a nice cameo at about the 7:25 mark.
