Get To Know Your Orange Man- #88 WR Clay Austin

Austin is an unfamiliar entity that could make a big impact for the Orange this season.

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Clay Austin

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: Junior

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 164

Hometown: Montclair, NJ

High School: Seton Hall Prep

2015 Stats: Clay played against Louisville last season as a gunner on the punt coverage team

2016 Projections: Clay is listed as a second-string wide receiver on the post-spring depth chart. He sits there behind Ervin Phillips, but is also ahead of Tyrone Perkins, a sophomore recruited to play the now-extinct express-back position. With him already ahead of a scholarship player on the depth chart and him playing in a Dino Babers offense so dependent on speed, it wouldn't be surprising to see him on the field more often this fall.

How’d He Get Here?: It is unclear whether he arrived at Syracuse on scholarship, but he ran on the Syracuse track team from 2013-2014 and walked onto the football team prior to the 2015 season.

What’d Recruiting Sites Say?: Nothing.

Money QuoteHere's a whole bunch of quotes by Clay, including one about a former Syracuse star he'd like to trade places with.

"I would want to change places with Carmelo Anthony because he is superstar athlete that truly gives back to his community, and has a positive effect on people. Also, his wife is Lala Anthony, my crush."

Twitterfeed: He doesn't seem to have one.

Interesting Nugget O’Interest: Clay's step-sister, Maya Pitts, was a member of the Syracuse women's soccer team from 2012-2015.
