Syracuse Soccer: Four Reasons To Attend Every Home Game

New, 2 comments

The schedule is tough, exciting, and fun. You should go to every game this season, and I'm here to tell you why.

The Syracuse Orange men's and women's soccer teams released their schedules for the upcoming season over the weekend, and the slate is tough for both teams. The men will play seven teams from the NCAA Tournament, and the women will play eight.

The men's schedule is highlighted with a home game against Boston College and a road game at Clemson, both teams the Orange matched up with in the postseason a year ago. For the women, they host Virginia Tech and Florida State at home, two marquee teams in the lacrosse world.

This might be the best time to get in on Syracuse soccer games. The men are coming off of their best season ever and the women will hopefully catch up. There is a myriad of reasons to attend their games this year, but here are just a few:

The teams are really exciting and entertaining to watch

This seems like a no-brainer as to why you would want to go watch a soccer team. The men's team reached the College Cup last season before losing in penalty kicks one game shy of the national championship game. The women had a bit of a tougher time but play in the best conference in women's soccer. So if you like the sport of soccer, you should absolutely go because of the quality of play you will see for every single game on the home schedule. It's incredibly easy to follow, and you'll be in to it in no time.

It's one of the last things you'll be able to enjoy before it starts snowing

That is a terrible statement to read while we are in the month of June, but it's true. When the soccer teams take the field this fall, it is one of the last opportunities you will have to enjoy the outdoors before being forced in to your homes for a season of cold, snowy misery. When you think of Syracuse soccer, think of the leaves changing colors. Weather in the 50's and 60's. Green grass. Sunshine. It is a time of year you absolutely want to take advantage of, and why not do it on campus rooting on the Orange with all of your family and friends? Why do I recommend you bringing so many people you ask? On to my next point...

It's absolutely free to attend

Now you must think this is just getting to be too good to be true. Nationally-relevant soccer teams at the collegiate level playing in beautiful weather for us to enjoy, and it's free? I know people who have no interest whatsoever in the sport of baseball yet attend Syracuse Chiefs games for the weather and fun with friends, and it's far from free. I don't know what would make it more worth it to go to a Syracuse soccer game. Oh, wait, yes I do....

Tailgating is allowed in the parking lot

While you won't see a football-style tailgating atmosphere in the parking lot at Manley, you absolutely will find some people out there eating some dinner and having a couple beverages before the game. Again, parking is free and right outside the stadium. It couldn't be easier to have a fun night out to root on the Orange.

So there you have it. Soccer is by no means my favorite sport (and people like me are shrinking by the year with the rise of popularity in American soccer), but I make it a point to make as many games as possible. It's a cheap date night out, and is incredibly exciting and fun for people of all ages.
