Over the weekend, 2017 Connecticut (Cheshire Academy) running back C.J. Holmes released his top-seven schools on Twitter. The Syracuse Orange were included on the 4-star talent's shortlist:

Joining the Orange on the list above were your typical heavyweights of college football: Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee and UCLA. Obviously SU will have their work cut out for them if they hope to land the skilled back.
As 2017 QB commit Tommy DeVito revealed, however, the Orange do have a secret weapon: him.
Since pledging to Syracuse, DeVito's been working on Holmes and others to try and convince them to come up to SU. While the deal's far from "sealed" on DeVito or any of his buds here, it certainly helps to have some help (especially from a quarterback) landing players like Holmes and Eddie Lewis, among others.

According to Scout, Holmes comes in at 6-feet and 190 pounds, and is one of the top 300 recruits in the country. He hasn't given any indication on what his decision timetable looks like yet.
