Syracuse Basketball: Chino Obokoh Transferring to St. Bonaventure

Obokoh, once expected to be a key player in the Syracuse Orange rotation this past season, will transfer to St. Bonaventure.

Chinonso Obokoh, once expected to be a key player in the Syracuse Orange rotation this past season, will transfer to St. Bonaventure, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports. Chino is the second player to transfer from the Orange this off-season, with guard Kaleb Joseph deciding to transfer to Creighton in April.

Obokoh will graduate this spring, which makes him eligible to play immediately next season. He will have at least one season of eligibility with the potential to play a second season, says Chris Carleson of Syracuse.com:

Obokoh will have at least one season to play and could earn a second year with a successful appeal to the NCAA. He should graduate at the end of the semester, which would make him eligible to play immediately for the Bonnies.

Obokoh's departure is not too big a surprise to Syracuse fans, where he played just 11 games for 67 minutes while in an Orange uniform.

Chino was supposed to be a key player in the rotation this season and just didn't pan out the way Jim Boeheim wanted it to. Like Kaleb Joseph, Obokoh didn't complain publicly, and had a great attitude for a season that saw a lot of ups and downs as a team.

Like Joseph's departure, this one should be met with well wishes, as Chino wore the Orange uniform with dignity and class until the end. There is no doubt that Orange Nation will wish nothing but the best for the big man.
