The Syracuse Orange women's lacrosse team has accomplished a lot in the last three seasons. One thing they haven't been able to do in that time is defeat the Maryland Terrapins lacrosse team in the Final Four or National Championship game. They'll get their fourth-straight opportunity and sixth chance in eight years to do so this weekend when the two teams meet in the Final Four.
The North Carolina Tar Heels and Penn State Nittany Lions will kick off Final Four play at 5:00 p.m. and then the winner of that game will await the winner of Syracuse - Maryland at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
UM has been a pain in Syracuse's side for quite some time now. Maryland stalled it's way to victory last year in a 10-8 win in last year's Final Four. The Terps defeated SU in the title game in 2014. They edged the Orange 11-10 in the National Semifinal in 2013. In 2010, Maryland romped over SU in the Final Four. And in 2009 the Terps beat out the Orange in the NCAA quarters, 12-10.
Maryland also topped Syracuse earlier this season in a 14-9 win, one of many on the Terps' undefeated run. Coming into the game at 21-0, they're heavy favorites over the 19-5 Orange. But it's been just the kind of year for Syracuse Athleticswhere an upset win here seems entirely possible.
