The Syracuse Orange news never ceases, apparently. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reports that the Orange will open the 2016-17 season against one-time CNY rival the Colgate Raiders on November 11.
Syracuse is 123-45 all-time vs. Colgate, winning every matchup from 1963 onward. The Orange and Raiders have met every season since 1993. The last road game for SU in the series was in 1977 (a 99-50 win).
Scheduling Colgate makes it eight non-conference games for the Orange now. Following the season opener vs. the Raiders, here's how things lay out so far:
November 15: Holy Cross
November 18: Monmouth
November 22: South Carolina State
November 26: South Carolina (Barclays Center)
December 5: UConn (at Madison Square Garden)
December 17: Georgetown
December 21: St. John's
The ACC-Big Ten Challenge will add another major conference opponent in the gap between UConn and Georgetown. After that, still four games to go. Assume we see one between South Carolina and UConn, two after St. John's and maybe they try to sneak another in between UConn and Georgetown too? SU has yet to schedule a true road game in non-conference play this year (though the ACC/B1G Challenge may take care of that).
