Between the departure of DOCTOR Daryl Gross and the hiring of Mark Coyle, Syracuse University made Pete Sala interim athletic director. This time, as they search for Mark Coyle's replacement, they're going with a two-person team.

Dan French, SU's general counsel, will take over as interim athletic director for Syracuse Orange Athletics. He has served as the university's top lawyer since July 2014.

Meanwhile, Herman Frazier has been promoted to senior deputy director of athletics. Frazier has been with Syracuse since 2011. Frazier was previously AD at University of Alabama-Birmingham and Hawaii. Both stints ended in controversy and concern over the way Frazier had handled the programs, which might be part of the reason SU seems hesistant to hand over the full reigns to him.

It sounds like French will be more of a logistical, big picture person while Frazier will focus on working with athletes and specific programs.

Per Chris Carlson, industry experts think the new search with take longer than the three months that led to SU's hiring of Coyle. Whereas Coyle was brought in mostly to bring football back up to code, the new AD's focus will likely be more toward fundraising.
