Syracuse Orange Women's Lacrosse defeated Stony Brook 7-6 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday in Newton, Mass. Seven different Orange women found the back of the net in the win, which advances Syracuse to the quarterfinals where they will meet fifth-seeded USC in the Carrier Dome.
The Sea Wolves took a 4-3 lead in to halftime, and grew that lead with a goal at the 26:43 mark in the second half. With their backs against the wall, the Orange netted four straight over the next 15-plus minutes to take a 7-5 lead. Stony Brook didn't quit, scoring one more goal down the stretch before falling short.
The win advances Syracuse to their fifth consecutive quarterfinals in a game that was played under bizarre circumstances.
The Syracuse "home" game was played in Massachusetts rather than the Carrier Dome due to a lack of hotel accommodations that meet NCAA guidelines. With the win, Syracuse will now return back home for the USC Trojans May 21 in the Carrier Dome. Face off is set for 3 p.m. ET.
