Syracuse Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim on Mark Coyle's Departure: "It's Shocking"

The longest tenured Syracuse employee gave us his reaction to his boss leaving after less than a year.

Just like everyone else in the Syracuse community, Jim Boeheim learned the shocking news on Wednesday morning that Orange Athletic Director Mark Coyle will be leaving his position with the school after less than a year to take the same position at Minnesota.

The university announced that Coyle, who started at SU last June after leaving Boise State, is leaving "for family reasons."

So, what did Boeheim have to say about the fact that Syracuse is looking for a new AD for the second time in a year? Well, it appears that he was just as blindsided as the rest of us.

"I would say it's a surprise," he said. "I really liked Mark Coyle. I thought he was really good. Thought he had a good grip on everything in a relatively short period of time. It's shocking. I like him a lot and I thought he was doing great."

Time will tell how this whole situation will shake out, but for the moment, Brett McMurphy found someone else at the ACC meetings who has a suggestion for Syracuse:

Interesting thought from the Notre Dame head coach, who is probably more anxious to see Boeheim move from court side than anything else. Boeheim, for his two cents, has other ideas.

"We'll just go on and find other good people out there."
