Syracuse Orange 6th in Latest Director's Cup Standings

Thanks to two Final Four runs and a program-best performance in Indoor Track, Syracuse stays in the top 10 of the latest Director's Cup standings.

As we turn the corner to Spring (sometime, maybe,....I mean it has to get here at some point right?), the Syracuse Orange continue to enjoy the best overall Athletics year in school history. The latest Director's Cup standings were released yesterday and Syracuse is holding in the top 10 with the 6th highest total in Division 1 with 586.5 points. The Stanford Cardinal to no one's surprise continue to lead with 944.25 points, which is over 200 points ahead of the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Michigan Wolverines, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Texas Longhorns round out the top 5, with Texas just 3.5 points ahead of the Orange.

Syracuse was in 2nd after the Fall sports, but with only 5 teams competing in the 10 sports considered in this update, it was expected that the Orange would drop some spots. The Women's Basketball team led the way in this period, grabbing 90 points for their runner-up finish in the tournament. By advancing to the Final Four, Men's Basketball added 83 points, and an 11th place finish from Men's Track & Field was worth 66 points.

The next two updates will be for the sports of M. Hockey, M&W Gymnastics, and Bowling, so the Orange will not be able to improve their standing until the June 2nd update, which will include M&W Lacrosse and Tennis. Syracuse's previous best finish is 39th, so a strong showing this Spring can propel the Orange to easily surpass that finish.
