Rivalry: 37-12, Connecticut
Current Streak: 23 straight for UConn. Syracuse last beat the Huskies back in 1996, scoring the biggest upset in school history over the second-ranked squad.
Last Time: UConn 64, Syracuse 51 back in 2013. The teams' last Big East matchup was a low-scoring affair that showed SU was able to test the Huskies a little. Not by any great measure, of course. But at least they kept in respectable against the team that would eventually win its first of three consecutive titles.
Curious Connections: Huskies star Breanna Stewart grew up in Syracuse and used to go to Orange women's games all the time. UConn wanted a "homecoming" game for Stewart this season, but SU coach Quentin Hillsman said there was no room on the schedule for it. You already know all of this, however.
Head Coaches: SU: Quentin Hillsman (10th Year, 219-112), UConn: Geno Auriemma (31st Year, 954-134)
Last Year: UConn lost just one game en route to their third consecutive national championship. They beat Notre Dame, 63-53 in the title game. They did not lose a game in regulation, and have won every game since the November 2014 defeat at the hands of Stanford.
This Year: The Huskies' winning streak has continued, and the team's gone undefeated through 37 games. Breanna Stewart is the best player in women's college basketball, averaging 19.2 points per game and 8.7 boards. UConn has won its five games in the 2016 NCAA Tournament by nearly 40 points per game. Should they beat Syracuse tonight, it would be their record fourth-straight title.
Last Game: UConn made pretty short work of Oregon State on the opposite side of the bracket. They were up 26 at halftime and won by 29. This has basically been the story of the tournament and the entire year for the Huskies.
"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds of Timelords": Can't say the whole team, even if it's true. The aforementioned Stewart has company in terms of honors and praise in the UConn starting lineup. Fellow senior Morgan Tuck averages 13.5 points and over five rebounds per game. She put up 21 against the Beavers on Sunday. Yet another senior, Moriah Jefferson, scores nearly 13 points per game. Four of the team's five starters shoot 51-percent or better from the field.
If Syracuse Wins: It's the largest upset in the history of American sports, to be perfectly honest. It prevents this UConn team from accepting its place among the best women's basketball has ever seen and turns Syracuse into one of the sport's most notable programs.
If Syracuse Loses:It's expected, but that doesn't mean we'll like it. Hoping Syracuse can keep it within 20 or so. That would be a mark of relative success if they're not going to get the win.
