You've heard of walk-ons. You've heard of preferred walk-ons. But have you heard of premium preferred walk-ons? At least one guy has that offer on the table as part of the 2016 Syracuse Orange football team.
6-foot-3, 183-pound quarterback Anthony "Mo" Hasan, rated three stars as the No. 79 pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports.com, is considering whether or not to join SU this season with the understanding that he would receive a partial academic scholarship for his first year and then "hopefully earn a full athletic scholarship."
Hasan held offers from Lehigh and Howard but wanted to wait to see if he could find a spot on a P5 squad. He's also considering a preferred walk-on spot at Rutgers and has received interest from USC, San Diego State, Miami and Minnesota.
Syracuse, however, can offer Dino Babers and a system that makes quarterbacks like him.
"If you're a quarterback, this is a place you want to be at," Hasan recalled Wittke telling him. "Not only the system, but also the situation."
"I wouldn't say I have a No. 1 yet, but (Syracuse is) definitely up there," Hasan said. "It really does feel like someplace I can call home.
"All the love that Syracuse showed me is really a big factor. I want to go somewhere here they want me to go there. At Syracuse, it was really genuine."
If he does decide to come to SU, he'll join the team for this season and have a shot to work his way onto the depth chart.
