Syracuse Orange shooting guard Trevor Cooney signed with Stephen Pina as his agent to prepare for the upcoming NBA Draft. Pina also represents former Syracuse forward Rakeem Christmas and Pina's agency represents former forward Chris McCullough.
Pina told Syracuse.com that Cooney will consider playing professional ball internationally as well. He says the connection to Christmas helped him land Cooney. Pina has known Christmas since he was a teenager, as both are from Philadelphia.
Cooney is planning on training with Impact gym in Las Vegas with other prospects.
At this point, Cooney's college career might not put him on many draft boards, but a good showing at the Combine would certainly help his cause. He could also be a solid D-league or international prospect. He's proven his ability to be a lights-out shooter, but he's been inconsistent throughout his career. His work ethic should be impressive to scouts.
"I just want to get better at basketball," said Cooney. "And hopefully get some tryouts. Wherever I end up, I'm definitely looking forward to it."
"I think he has a skill set because he can shoot the ball," said Pina. "He just needs to focus on defense and I think he'll be okay."
Cooney finished his career as a 35.5-percent shooter from beyond the arch, averaging two rebounds per game and 10.1 points per game.
