Syracuse Women's Rowing: Orange Win O'Leary Cup for First Time Since 2001

The Orange completed a successful weekend at the Clemson Invite.

No. 19 Syracuse had a lot to show for how they fared in this past weekend's Clemson Invite on Lake Hartwell.

The two-day event began on Saturday morning with a victory over Harvard in the first Varsity eight competition. It was the program's first win over the Crimson since 2001 and secured the second O'Leary cup in program history. In the second session, the first varsity four boat won its heat with a time of 7:18.0, a record that would stand as the best throughout the entirety of the first varsity four competition. It was better than the times from seven of the top-20 teams that competed over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Orange posted three third-place finishes and one runner-up finish to complete their competition. Their first varsity eight team had the sixth-fastest time of the morning, their best result of the weekend.

Head coach Justin Moore was very proud of his team's effort over the course of both days:

"We felt like we had a strong team. We feel like it is not about just one boat. We feel like the strength of our team was displayed this weekend."

Syracuse will wrap-up the regular season next weekend in their race against No. 4 Ohio State and Michigan State in Columbus, Ohio, starting at 11:00 am ET.

G'Orange!
