Going into the 2016 WNBA Draft, there were thoughts that Brianna Butler could get selected, but there were no guarantees.
Ends up projections were way off. The senior sharpshooter was picked by the Los Angeles Sparks in the second round, with the 23rd overall pick. L.A. lost in the first round last year to the Minnesota Lynx, who won the WNBA title.
Butler was the Syracuse Orange's all-time leader in three-point shots made. She was the D1 active career leader in three-pointers attempted too at the end of the 2015-16 season. In her senior year, she put up 13.2 points per game, while hitting 31 percent of her shots. Butler's career stats included a 12.1 points per game average on 32 percent shooting. She hit 31 percent of her three-point attempts over the course of four years.
Butler's the first Syracuse player selected since 2013, when Kayla Alexander was selected eighth overall by the San Antonio Silver Stars.
