2016 ACC Tournament, Syracuse vs. Pitt: Official TNIAAM Predictions & Poll

Can the Orange get to 20 wins and set up a huge showdown with North Carolina?

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

With everything that's gone down during Championship Week, this morning's showdown between the Syracuse Orange and Pittsburgh Panthers feels like more of a play-in game for the 2016 NCAA Tournament that it did before. The Orange don't want to find out what happens if they lose and take their chances. Can they at least win this game, knock Pitt off the bubble and get to 20 wins? Let's see what everyone thinks.

Ari Gilberg

Pitt 69 - Syracuse 65
Pitt won both games during the regular season and I expect them to go for a clean three-game sweep. Syracuse simply matches up too poorly against a bigger and much more physical Pitt team, exemplified by the fact the Orange were outrebounded by a combined 38 boards in their two losses to the Panthers. Syracuse will most likely keep this game close, but poor rebounding and weak interior defense will once again doom the Orange.

I don't have any reason to believe that Pitt won't do as Pitt does against Syracuse today and that's win. I know Syracuse is 5-1 against the Panthers in conference tournaments but Jamie Dixon has Syracuse's number. Pitt matches up well against the Orange -- Michael Young and Jamel Artis will have great games while James Robinson proves to be steady. Pitt once again kills Syracuse on the glass and completes the trifecta over Syracuse this season with a 79-71 win.

Syracuse 68 - Pitt 67
Maybe I’m just being optimistic, but I’m thinking that with their NCAA Tournament life on the line the Orange will dig deep and pull this one out. Yes Syracuse has lost to Pitt twice this year, but it is hard to beat a team three times, especially a Syracuse team. The last time the Orange lost to team three times was in the 85-86 season against Georgetown. I do think Pitt has the personnel to be a team that beats the Orange three times due to their dominance inside, but I think Orange will be able to do enough to pull this one out thanks to their shooting and go on to play another day in the ACC Tournament.

Syracuse 63 - Pitt 60
Honestly, I could see Syracuse coming out and laying an egg here, but I don't think they will. I think we're officially in the time of the year when Pitt stops being regular-season Pitt and starts being postseason Pitt and all of a sudden we can beat them. I suppose it'll come down to whether or not at least two Orange scorers show up and if SU can not let Pitt run too wild in the frontcourt. It'll be ugly, but I think the Orange do just enough for that 11-seed play-in game.

How about you?
