Fresh off a three game road trip that featured two ranked teams (BC and Notre Dame), No. 4 Syracuse was back in action on Tuesday at the Carrier Dome to face UConn. There is no way to describe this game other than a domination by the Orange. But nothing less was expected. Syracuse routed the Huskies in a commanding 17-7 win.
The Orange started off a bit slow as they tested UConn's zone defense. They weren't finishing their shots and they had a couple of turnovers, allowing UConn hold a one goal deficit, 4-3, for the first 17 minutes of the game. But then the Orange offense exploded.
Syracuse scored 11 unanswered goals from the 12 minute mark in the first half to the 22 minute mark of the second and brought the score to 15-3.
The offense was extremely methodical, tearing through UConn's weak zone. The Orange were aggressive off of the dodge, they were making beautiful cuts and finding the open player, and they converted 100% of their free position shots.
Syracuse's Kayla Treanor had yet another outstanding performance. The senior tied her season high of seven points recording four goals and three assists.
Sophomore Riley Donahue also netted a hat trick, and senior Halle Majorana had five points in the game.
Overall 11 Syracuse players recorded a point in the contest.
A dominating performance was expected by the No. 4 Orange against an unranked opponent that hasn't faced anyone fairly good this season. But that doesn't take away from how the Syracuse played on both sides of the ball.
Allie Murray had one of her best games of the season recording ten saves and only allowing four goals. She played just over 48 minutes in the game. The Orange subbed her out and played their two backups for the remaining time.
