The Syracuse Orange look to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history when they take on the Albany Great Danes on Sunday. Sunday at noon. You can catch it on ESPN2.
SU is coming off a terrific first-round victory against Army, blowing the Black Knights out in the first half and then cruising to a 73-56 point victory. Albany shocked 5-seed Florida yesterday to capture their first-ever NCAA Tournament win.
Albany won the American East conference title and tournament this season. They also earned an impressive overall record of 28-4. The Great Danes have won 20 of their last 21 and are on fire. Shereesha Richards and Imani Tate are certainly some players for Syracuse to watch out for as they account for 60 percent of Albany's scoring this season. Both scorers are dangerous and have led UA in points for all but one game this season. The Great Danes are also a strong rebounding team, averaging a rebounding margin of +10.7.
This is the fourth time these upstate New York schools will have met. Syracuse has won the previous three. The last time they played was December of 2010, in which Syracuse won by 31 points.
