Syracuse Orange fans were expecting one big surprise on National Signing Day. The assumption was that verbal commit Jaquwan Nelson would flip on the Orange and head to Georgia. Instead, he stuck with SU.
But the Recruiting Gods demanded some recompense for that and it came in the form of three-star safety/outside linebacker recruit Rashad Smith, who flipped back to Florida Atlantic after flipping from them to Syracuse (got that?).
Smith verballed to Syracuse on January 24 but apparently FAU brought in the big guns to keep the Homestead, FL recruit home.
New secondary coach Nick Monroe originally recruited Smith while at Bowling Green. After joining Dino Babers's staff at Syracuse, Monroe recruited Smith once again – this time to come play for the Orange. In the end, something kept him home. Maybe it was the snow.
Good luck to Rashad at FAU. The only real shame here in that so many Syracuse fans spent way too much time making edits for naught.
