National Signing Day 2016: 3-Star OT Sam Heckel Signs With Syracuse

The undersized OT makes it official with the Orange.

Sam Heckel is a 6'5", 265 pound offensive tackle from Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was recruited over the summer and is one of the few remaining Shafer recruits. He is the third best recruit from Wisconsin, and the 48th best OT in this class.

Stats: 6'5", 265 pounds

Main Recruiter: Heck was a Shafer recruit, but it seemed Dino Babers made him a priority soon after taking the job.

Commitment Date: June 27, 2015

Ratings: 247 Sports has Heckel rated as a 3 star recruit and a composite .8535 score. ESPN and Rivals have him listed as a 3 star recruit.

Player Breakdown: Heckel is rated slightly higher than other OT recruit Michael Clark, but have the same problem; he's undersized. Listed 10 pounds lighter than Clark, Heckel sits at 265. He is able to get off the line quickly for run blocks, and moves quickly for pass blocks and stays in front of his man. He will be able to play freshman year, contribute immediately and grow into an impact offensive tackle.
