The name Katie Rowan is all too familiar with the Syracuse lacrosse community. She played for the Orange from 2006-2009 and is one of the program's most decorated players. Rowan also was an assistant coach for the women's lacrosse team from 2012-2015. Alongside hall of fame coach, Gary Gait, Rowan helped the Orange get to three consecutive NCAA final four appearances. However this game was a little different for Rowan. She was still coaching, but this time on the other sideline. Rowan was named the head coach of Wagner women's lacrosse and is in her first season at the position.

Today, Rowan returned to the Carrier Dome for Wagner's matchup against No. 3 Syracuse. When the final whistle blew, Syracuse was victorious by a score of 16-5. But despite the loss, Rowan was happy to be back home.

"It was great to see so many familiar faces. I've built so many relationships here over the years so it was really great to see everyone. It was exciting," said Rowan.

Syracuse senior Kayla Treanor has a chance to break Rowans all time points record (396) this season. She now sits at 315 points, 81 behind of Rowan. When asked about Treanor's potential to break the record, Rowan doesn't really put much thought into it and neither does Treanor.

"We're both not really into the numbers we just want the best for Syracuse as a program and get to the final four and go all the way this year," said Rowan.

And Rowan thinks they have a really good shot to take the title this year.

"Having been on the doorstep (three consecutive final fours) with this senior leadership, they're just so hungry and focused this year, that this can certainly be the year they go all the way," said Rowan.

Syracuse will finish off the day with a second game against Marist today at 7:30pm.
