The Syracuse Orange were riding high on a winning streak and newfound sense that they could make a run in ACC play. Then they ran into a Louisville buzzsaw. Now, SU needs to get back on the horse and churn out a few more quality wins to secure an NCAA bid and take some confidence into the ACC Tournament. They can start with a win today over the Pittsburgh Panthers, a chance not only for revenge but also to start a brand-new winning streak.
Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
It's the 108th meeting between the two schools and though Syracuse holds a 65-42 advantage overall, the Panthers took down SU in December, 72-61. That makes this the only series of the season in which we'll see Jim Boeheim coach one game and Mike Hopkins coach the other. There's other vairables at play so we shouldn't compare head-to-head, but it could make for an interesting subplot.
John O. has a preview of the Panthers and what to expect. Give it a read.
We're expecting a classic SU-Pitt slobberknocker but we also expect SU to get the victory in front of a partisan Orange crowd.
The word on the street is that it'll be 30K-ish in the Dome today so expect it to be loud. That doesn't mean you can't scream and cheer from home, though. You're not off the hook.
