It may have been a chilly, wintry night outside of the Carrier Dome but Syracuse certainly didn't get off to a cold start against Florida State. Syracuse quickly jumped on the Seminoles behind some hot shooting from Malachi Richardson and Trevor Cooney.
The Orange shot well throughout the game with Michael Gbinije leading the charge, scoring 14 first half points on 5-6 shooting. Syracuse's largest lead of the half was 14 but 11 turnovers in the first allowed Florida State to hang around. A three by Devon Bookert at the buzzer cut Syracuse's lead to three at halftime.
In the second half Dajuan Coleman got things started with his own 6-0 run. He received a feed from Gbinije and finished with a strong dunk over Boris Bojanovsky. He rebounded a Cooney miss for a putback and even drove the lane from the top of the key and finished with his left, giving Syracuse a nine point lead.
Syracuse pulled away immediately in the second and the game was never close for the remainder of the contest. Gbinije led Syracuse in scoring -- he finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Richardson had a solid night with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Lydon had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Cooney cooled off from his hot start but chipped in 10 points. The Orange shot a lofty 62 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from outside.
With the win Syracuse moves to 17-8 and 7-5 in the ACC. The Orange will now travel to Chestnut Hill to take on Boston College on Sunday. That game tips at 1 p.m. and will be aired on the ACC Network and can also be streamed on ESPN3 so be sure to plan your Valentine's Day accordingly.
