Just like last year, Syracuse Orange fans are slowly starting to realize they might want to keep their attention on the women’s program as a way to soothe their pain over the state of the men’s program.
The women’s team (6-3) showed up at No. 20 in the latest AP Poll and moved up two spots to No. 19 in the Coaches Poll.
SU was able to bounce back from a rough showing in the Gulf Coast Showcase with a strong showing against nationally-ranked Michigan State and then a dominant win over Central Connecticut State.
SU is back in action Wednesday morning when they host Coppin State (0-7) at 11 a.m. in the Carrier Dome. That might sound crazy but when you hear that it’s School Day, it actually ends up sounding like a great idea.
SU is inviting a whole bunch of schools to show up for the game as well as anti-bullying and health and wellness presentations before tipoff. Presumably, kids will get to meet the players and Coach Q and the whole thing will basically be a promo event to get the young ones energized about women’s basketball. This is the kind of stuff SU needs to be doing to juice attendance and fan interest, so kudos on that.
