While the Syracuse Orange women’s basketball team didn’t play a game all last week, it didn’t stop them from moving up in the polls. The AP rankings revealed the Orange at 19th this week, up two spots from where they were previously.
Syracuse (8-3) was a direct beneficiary of a loss by the formerly 17th-ranked DePaul. The Blue Demons beat SU easily earlier in the season, but defeats at the hands of Notre Dame and Temple were enough to leave them on the outside of the top 25.
SU also hopped Oklahoma, who was also idle and stood pat at 20th this week.
The rankings continue to reveal a challenging slate for Syracuse as the season wears on. While DePaul and 12th-ranked Ohio State are in the rear-view, plenty of tough foes remain once ACC play starts. The Orange face no. 2 Notre Dame, no. 7 Florida State, no. 8 Louisville, no. 11 Miami, no. 17 Duke and no. 23 Virginia Tech before the season’s out.
Syracuse jumps back into action on Tuesday night against the Old Dominion Monarchs (5-3) in the Florida Sunshine Tournament in Winter Park, Fla. They’ll play again on Wednesday night vs. the Texas A&M Aggies (8-2).
