With a little under two months left in the 2017 recruiting cycle, the Syracuse Orange are solidifying existing commitments, while also trying to secure new ones.
One of the team’s targets in terms of new names was Virginia offensive lineman Tyran Hunt. The three-star from Southampton High School had included SU in his top three, along with Maryland and Virginia just a couple weeks ago. Given the offensive line’s struggles this year (especially in terms of run blocking), Syracuse could obviously use the help a bit.
Unfortunately, Hunt announced last night that he’d be heading to Maryland.
Once again, my supporters means everything to me. Much love to y'all. With that being said let's get it! You either with me or in my way pic.twitter.com/UlrU4wWLCR

The Terps were seen as the front-runners here, so it’s not much of a surprise. Still, a bummer that he’s headed elsewhere. This is unlikely to be the last time Syracuse sees Hunt, despite him picking the Terrapins, though. SU and Maryland face one another again in 2019.
Back on the recruiting front, the Orange will have to refocus efforts on other offensive linemen now for the class, which already includes two players in the position group (Dakota Davis and Patrick Davis). We recently took some guesses around how SU will use the last five or so scholarship spots for 2017 too, if you want to give that a look.
