The No. 20 Syracuse Orange women’s basketball team has put their troubles behind them for now as they wrapped up the home non-conference slate with a 109-60 decimation of the Niagara Purple Eagles.

It was the rare night when Alexis Peterson wasn’t the leading scorer or close to it. Brittney Sykes led the way with 23 points, also grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing eight assists. Briana Day scored 19 points and Peterson added 13 in the rout.

Like the Coppin State game, this one was a cakewalk from the beginning. SU led 32-8 after the first quarter and took a 62-19 lead into the locker room at the half. In case you’re wondering, 109 points is the most the team has scored so far in the season and is just four points short of the school all-time record.

The 8-3 Orange now head to Florida where it takes part in the Florida Sunshine Classic. They’ll play Old Dominion on Tuesday, December 20 at 3:15 p.m. and then follow that up with a game against Texas A&M on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. A&M is among the teams also receiving votes in both major polls.
