Going into Saturday’s matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Syracuse Orange were 4-0 and ranked 17th in the AP Poll. Following a pretty resounding loss at Barclays Center, however, Syracuse is 4-1 and ranked 22nd overall by the AP.
It wouldn’t have necessarily surprised us to see SU fall out of the rankings completely given its lackluster effort vs. the Gamecocks and the lack of real quality of its wins thus far (insert further lazy commentary here). But we’ll take the 22nd ranking for the time being.
South Carolina jumped from unranked to 20th after the win this weekend. They’re 6-0 on the year now.
Syracuse’s next opponent, the Wisconsin Badgers, also dropped in this week’s rankings — from 16th to 17th. Wisconsin lost by 15 to North Carolina last Wednesday and they’re 5-2 on the year so far. Still, an Orange win at Madison’s Kohl Center would be a very nice bounce-back effort and help Syracuse climb right back up the rankings.
Elsewhere around the ACC, the aforementioned Tar Heels are third and received four first-place votes. Duke is fifth, Virginia is sixth and Louisville is 14th after falling to Baylor last Friday.
You’re probably fine with the slight drop in the rankings. But feel free to share any gripes below.
