Syracuse vs. South Carolina official TNIAAM predictions & poll

South Carolina Gamecocks? More like South Carolina Je... well we can’t say that, can we?

NCAA Basketball: Michigan at South Carolina Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange (4-0) are set to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks (5-0) today in Brooklyn. The Gamecocks should represent the Orange’s first signicant opponent as it just knocked off No. 25 ranked Michigan and beat Monmouth in an overtime thriller last week. It’s also the first time Frank Martin and Jim Boeheim have gone head to head since 2012.

Be sure to check out these five keys to the game as well. With that said, the TNIAAM staff gathered ‘round its crystal ball to forecast what this game holds for Jim Boeheim & Co. Without further ado...

Syracuse 72 - South Carolina 59

This will be Syracuse's first real test. South Carolina comes into this matchup undefeated, and lacks no confidence. The Gamecocks are not nearly as balanced scoring wise as the Orange are. The lack of depth will prove to be an issue for South Carolina, as the Orange showcase a second unit like no other. This one will be tight for a while, but look for a late run by the Orange to seal the deal. Another good game from Lydon would be nice, but let's just come out with another expected victory for the Orange.

Syracuse 84 - South Carolina 79

The Orange will face its first big challenge, but I look for them to use their offense to survive the upset attempt. The Gamecocks are going to keep it close throughout, but I expect the duo of Andrew White III and Tyler Lydon to lead Syracuse to the victory in Brooklyn.

Syracuse 70 - South Carolina 58

I think the Orange get solid offensive production from its two leaders — Lydon and White — in its first real test away from home this season. Syracuse will have to key on Sindarius Thornwell as he’s the jack of all trades for South Carolina. I’m looking forward to the chess match between Boeheim and Martin but ultimately Syracuse comes out on top by limiting South Carolina from the three point line and on the boards.

Now it’s your turn!
