The Syracuse Orange are 3-0 on the year, and the Associated Press has moved them up one spot in the polls as a result. They’re ranked 17th according to the poll released today.
SU moves up by way of some shifts all around the top 20 or so. While we were certainly impressed by what Syracuse was able to do to Holy Cross and Monmouth last week, the voters were more focused on what others did or did not do. Creighton moved up from 22nd to 12th after upsetting Wisconsin. But Purdue and Michigan State dropped due to losses to Villanova and Kentucky, respectively.
Syracuse is still one of six ACC teams in the top 25 this week. Duke fell from first to sixth after a loss to Kansas, North Carolina moved up to fourth, Virginia up to seventh and Louisville is now 10th. Florida State entered the poll at 25th. Aforementioned Orange opponent Wisconsin is now just one spot above us at 16th in this week’s rankings. Miami, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech also received votes.
With two games this week — vs. South Carolina State and South Carolina — SU has a chance to stay the course or even move up too, depending on what happens around them. That Wisconsin game is looming large, however. If they can take down the Badgers on the road next week, SU could be looking at a very strong non-conference start.
