Syracuse vs. Pitt: Panthers favored by whopping 23.5 points over Orange

Vegas thinks Syracuse is done, basically.

Whatever hope you might have in the Syracuse Orange pulling off a win in their season finale on Saturday, Vegas shares none of it.

It might be the lack of Eric Dungey. It might be the way SU has returned to it’s getting-blown-out ways. It might be all of the injuries and lack of experience on the field. It might be because a bowl game feels pretty unlikely right now. It might be because the game is on the road. It might be because Pitt is playing for an eighth win and bowl seeding. It might be because they’ve proven they can break 50-points. It might be all of those things.

Whatever it is, Vegas installed the Pittsburgh Panthers as a 23.5-point favorite over the Orange on Saturday.

To put that in perspective, FSU opened as a 20-point favorite over SU while Clemson opened as a 28.5-point favorite. Coupled with Virginia Tech, which hit 20-points right before the game, it’s the fourth time this season Syracuse is facing such odds. To be fair, they’re 1-2 so far.

It would be pretty sweet for the Orange to overcome the odds and end the season on a high note (with the potential for a bowl game). That post-game speech by Dino is sure to be epic. Of course, given the state of the team right now, it doesn’t feel too likely.
