The Syracuse Orange continue to pursue top names for the class of 2017 as they look to secure their first commitment in a crucial recruiting year. One of those names included SU in his top six yesterday:
Hamidou Diallo, a five-star shooting guard from Queens, N.Y., is rated as the top shooting guard in the class and 10th-best prospect overall. As he attends Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut, it’s no surprise to see the Huskies on his list here, along with SU, Arizona, Indiana, Kansas and Kentucky. That short list should sound familiar, since the Orange are pretty much up against those same schools — with Duke, Villanova or Louisville thrown in here and there — for every top recruit.
Diallo would add some needed help on the wing for next season, as Syracuse could lose most of its backcourt and most of its options at the three. Kentucky is the favorite, though SU is far from out of it just yet.
In September, Diallo told Scout’s Evan Daniels that he may still consider the NBA Draft, since he graduated last year. He’s taken several visits to UConn already, and went to Syracuse on an unofficial visit. According to Daniels, he’ll still take his official visits to his top schools, and will make a decision this coming spring.
