The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team is 1-0 on the year after drubbing Colgate at home last Friday. Their reward? Moving up in the AP Poll, and (for some reason) down in the Coaches Poll today.
Syracuse’s move to 18th in the AP is directly related to UConn (formerly 17th) getting upset by Wagner on the season’s opening night. Over on the coaches’ side, UCLA and St. Mary’s were able to overtake the Orange despite their own respective bodybag wins.
Kansas and Michigan State were the only teams in to survive a loss and still be ranked. The Jayhawks fell to Indiana but they remained in the top 10. Michigan State dropped a close game to Arizona and they remained among the top 15 teams in the nation.
The ACC teams are the same as they were before: Duke (1 in AP/1 in Coaches), North Carolina (5/6), Virginia (8/7), Louisville (12/12) and then Syracuse. Florida State, Miami, Virginia Tech, NC State, Notre Dame, Clemson and Pitt all received votes in one or both polls. Future Orange opponent Wisconsin is ninth in the AP and 11th in the Coaches Poll.

Any questions? Holy Cross and Monmouth are both on the docket prior to the next rankings coming out.
