Syracuse football starting quarterback Eric Dungey has been ruled out for today’s game against NC State, SU Athletics announced less than one hour until kickoff. He will be replaced by backup Zack Mahoney, the ACC Extra preview reported.
There was previously uncertaintiy as to who would start in Dungey’s place after both redshirt junior Austin Wilson and junior Zack Mahoney were listed as co-backups on this week’s two-man depth chart.
Dunger was forced out of last Saturday’s game against Clemson after suffering a hard hit to the head-and-neck area during the final minutes of the first quarter. He was taken into the locker room for an evaluation before returning to the sidelines and watching the remainder of the game in street clothes.
Backup Austin Wilson entered the game in Dungey’s place and completed 17-of-27 passes for 116 yards and two interceptions. Mahoney replaced Wilson in the final minutes, completing one pass for eight yards.
