The 12th Annual Sport Management Club Charity Sports Auction returns to the backcourt of the Carrier Dome during the December 10 men’s basketball game between the Syracuse Orange and Boston Terriers as well as right before the women’s basketball game against Niagara Purple Eagles.
For the first time, the auction will continue through halftime of the men's game and continue until the buzzer sounds for the start of the women's game. Anyone with a ticket to the game has access to the auction, which features lots of cool memorabilia and experiences that Orange fans can bid on. There’s also non-SU-related items such as electronics and vacation packages.
The beneficiary of this year’s event is McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center, dedicated to ending child abuse and neglect through prevention, intervention, and education. The Center offers a safe, child-friendly system to work with sexually or physically abused children and their families in Onondaga County.
In 2015, McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center provided services to nearly 700 sexually abused children--35% were under the age of 6, and 39% were between 7 and 12 years of age. During the 2015-2016 school year, their prevention education programs provided school-based curriculums to over 16,000 children.
The goal this year is to raise $50,000 for this worthwhile cause. To date, this student group has raised over $325,000 for non-profit organizations throughout our community.
