Syracuse Basketball: Tyler Lydon on preseason Naismith watch list

Lydon is getting the kind of preseason hype most Syracuse stars don't see.

The Syracuse Orange season gets underway this weekend and all of the final preseason lists and predictions are coming through. That's often where fans from other teams start to realize who the opposing players they need to be concerned with are. If that's the case, opposing teams need to be concerned with Tyler Lydon.

Lydon was named to the Naismith Player of the Year award watch list on Thursday. The award is given annually since 1969 to the nation’s best college basketball player. There are 50 players on the watch list and Lydon is one of only ten sophomores to make the cut.

He's the first Syracuse player to make the preseason watch list since C.J. Fair. Both Michael Gbinije and Rakeem Christmas were added to the midseason watch list in their best seasons.

The SB Nation Mothership also released their list of the Top 100 College Basketball Players on Thursday and Lydon checks in at No. 27 overall.

"A revelation during the second half of last season, Tyler Lydon's size (6'9), shot-blocking ability, and three-point stroke make him an ideal fit for Jim Boeheim's system. His decision to spurn the NBA for at least one more season with the Orange is the primary reason they'll start 2016-17 with a top-20 national ranking."

They also included Andrew White III at No. 62. Tyler Roberson earned an honorable mention.
