Syracuse athletics hires Chris Fuller, Kristen Jones Kolod

It’s Athletic Director John Wildhack’s first major staffing moves.

Since Syracuse Orange Director of Athletics John Wildhack arrived on campus, he’s made most of his changes behind the scenes. Today marks his first major hires within the athletic department, and they’re big(ger) ones.

Chris Fuller, senior associate athletic director for external operations with the Tennessee Volunteers, will join SU Athletics. The news was first reported by Rhiannon Potkey, UT football beat writer at the Knoxville News Sentinel. His title will be deputy athletics director, external operations. He’ll handle oversight for marketing, athletics ticket sales, communications and the Orange Club.

Fuller, who’s now in its 11th season at Tennessee, is largely in charge of fundraising and marketing, as well as the school’s various media deals. He negotiated UT’s current (lucrative) IMG deal and was in charge of the Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence, which has raised over $100 million for the Tennessee Fund since 2013. He began his time with the Vols as a member of the sales & marketing staff, working his way up over the course of 11-plus seasons.

Prior to Tennessee, he worked with the MAC and the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers as part of Gund Sports Marketing. There he also handled additional roles with Bowling Green (hey, they’re familiar!) and Miami-Ohio. He worked with the ACC from 1995-1999 before that, handling elements of their partner program, licensing, championship events and website. Fuller also worked at North Carolina post-grad. He has a grad degree from West Virginia, which... we’ll try not to judge him for too much.

Shortly after Potkey’s tweet, Syracuse confirmed the news, along with the hiring of Kristen Jones Kolod as the new deputy athletic director and chief financial officer.

Jones Kolod is an internal hire at Syracuse, coming over from the Division of Student Affairs. There, she was the executive director of budget and administrative operations for student affairs since 2008. Prior to coming to Syracuse, she held previous positions at United Technologies, Carrier Corporation, North American Operations and Penn Traffic Company. She holds two degrees from Le Moyne College.

Welcome aboard to both Chris and Kristen. Looking forward to seeing their contributions to SU Athletics and its growth in the coming years.
