NC State Blog: Backing The Pack
Rivalry: 8-1, NC State
Current Streak: 2, NC State
First Meeting: The first meeting between the two schools took place in 1972. NC State won 43-20. Not too much info out there about it but, knowing what we know about 70's Syracuse football, sounds about right.
Last Meeting: Down 21-9 at the half, SU mounted a bit of a comeback in the fourth quarter but it was all too little too late and the Orange lost their eighth-straight game in 2015, 42-29, all but sealing Scott Shafer’s fate. He was fired two days later.
Head Coaches: SU: Dino Babers (1st Year, 4-5), NC State: Dave Doeren (4th Year, 22-25)
Curious Connections: There's this guy named George McDonald who is the wide receivers coach for the Wolfpack. You may remember him.
Last Year: NC State finished the season 7–5 (3–5), good for fourth place in the Atlantic Division. They were invited to the Belk Bowl where they lost to Mississippi State 51-28, to finish 7-6 overall.
Last Game: NC State had their shot but Florida State overcame a 20-10 deficit in the second half to win 24-20.
"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds of Timelords": Somebody keep an eye on Matthew Dayes. The running back has 831 yards and four rushing scores on the season, averaging five yards per carry. He’s also picked up 206 yards receiving. So maybe two people should keep an eye on him.
If Syracuse Wins: All that stands between us and a bowl game is Pitt and maybe someone else with better APR scores.
If Syracuse Loses: Our bowl game dreams are just about shattered.
Fun Fact: NC State has outscored Syracuse 282-179 over the course of the nine-game series.
