The battle of the former Big East giants gets a national audience.

When the Syracuse Orange finally return to the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome on October 15, it’ll be in front of a national television audience.

Syracuse’s matchup with the Virginia Tech Hokies has been set for 3:45 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The Hokies are ranked 25th in the AP Poll this week, though that may not be the case next week when this game kicks off. Tech goes on the road to face 17th-ranked North Carolina this Saturday.

As you’ll recall, Syracuse and Virginia Tech had a lively back-and-forth while sharing the Big East conference, and the all-time series gives the Orange a 9-8 advantage. Last time these two met was not a fun time for SU, a 51-7 defeat in 2003. These former “rivals” also gave us this indelible moment in Orange football lore:

Odd start time, sure. But most attending in person will probably welcome the additional tailgate time. Syracuse hopes to be 3-3 (1-1) when this game rolls around. They face Wake Forest this Saturday.
