After a thrilling 31-17 upset victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday, it’s no surprise that a couple Syracuse Orange football players stood out above the rest.
The ACC announced its “players of the week” on Monday, and among those honored were Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey and linebacker Zaire Franklin.

Dungey, as you’re aware, accounted for 417 yards of total offense and two scores (one passing, one rushing). He also managed to become the first Orange player to ever throw for 300 yards and run for 100 yards in the same game. While he took a bad hit on his right knee in the second quarter vs. the Hokies, that did nothing to deter his efforts the rest of the game. The sophomore was critical in converting late first downs to help lock up the victory.
Franklin continues his improvement each week within SU’s new defensive scheme. Against Virginia Tech, he tallied another 10 tackles, including one for loss. His stops on Hokies QB Jerod Evans were keys to turning Tech over and preserving the Syracuse win.

While every game hasn’t looked amazing from a team perspective, Syracuse has actually shown up on these weekly awards quite a bit since the season started.
Congrats to Eric and Zaire! Let’s hope for more “hardware” this weekend vs. BC.
