Syracuse vs. Georgia Tech: Official TNIAAM Predictions & Poll

Can the Orange keep it going with a visit from the Yellow Jackets?

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange have made quite the turnaround in recent weeks. After looking like they were doomed to an NIT season, the Orange have looked at-times like a team destined to make it into the NCAA Tournament thanks to dominant wins over Boston College, Wake Forest and No. 25 Notre Dame. Couple that with a huge road win over Duke and a close loss to Virginia and SU seems fully-capable of surging into the last part of the season with a tourney bid on the line.

Of course, they have to take things game by game and that means all their focus has to be on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who invade the Carrier Dome on Saturday. The 12-8 (2-5) Jackets are coming off a win over N.C. State and also have wins over Tennessee, Arkansas and Virginia on their resume.

Will Syracuse be the latest upset victim of Tech or can SU keep the good vibes going? Let's see what everyone thinks.

After the big win over Notre Dame, Syracuse cannot afford to overlook GT. They bring an experienced team that gets on the offensive glass, so the Orange will need to continue their trend of solid rebounding. I think this game will be close throughout, but the SU offense will be enough to escape with a win.

Syracuse will have to slow Marcus Georges-Hunt and his backcourt mate Adam Smith. Syracuse should take a hands on approach (no laissez faire) and get a hand up on MGH and Smith. Okay, I'm done here, but Smith is a high volume shooter who has traditionally stuggled against Syracuse's zone. That doesn't mean he will struggle -- he could spell trouble if he gets going. MGH has scored 76 points over his last three games as well. If Syracuse can stop those two guys they win easily. Ultimately I think Syracuse wins by 10 against an inferior Georgia Tech team.

The Orange will need to keep Charles Smith off of the glass and will need to emphasize containing Marcus Georges-Hunt. Adam Smith and Marcus Georges-Hunt can both shoot the 3, and running them off the 3 point line will be key for the Orange. Georgia Tech is a very deep team, they generally play 9 guys a game and the Orange will need to be well rested in order to run with the Yellow Jackets. Syracuse has been shooting the ball very well lately, and I think they will ultimately out shoot the Yellow Jackets and come away with a win.

After being the #DisloyalIdiot before Notre Dame, I've been convinced it's okay to trust this team after all. Of course, that means they'll lose this one. But I still think the Orange should be able to take this one considering how much they're gelling right now. Assuming they can limit GT's three-point shooting, this should be yet another in a recent run of quality wins for SU.

Now it's your turn...
