Syracuse Football: Season-Opener vs. Colgate Officially Set For Friday, September 2

Amber Searls-USA TODAY Sports

When the 2016 Syracuse Orange football schedule was released on Tuesday, the official date of the season opener vs. the Colgate Raiders was still up in the air. At the time the game could have been on September 1, 2 or 3, depending on a series of factors. Apparently SU just needed an extra day to work out those factors as they've officially zeroed in on Friday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m.

You might think that a Friday night game means you'll get to watch the game on TV but remember this past year's season-opener vs. Villanova was on a Friday night as well and we all had to watch that game 40 seconds behind live on ESPN3. Expect that to happen again this time.

It also means Syracuse will open the season with two-consecutive Friday night games in the Dome. Does that help or hurt attendance?

Still, it should be a big night in the Carrier Dome. It's Dino Babers' first game as head coach of the Orange and we'll be excited to see his fancy new offense in action. They should have a relatively easy time of it as Syracuse has defeated Colgate fifteen-straight times going back to 1951, last winning 42-7 in 2010.

Then again, we should know better than to make assumptions about Syracuse and FCS opponents.
