It was a weekend of verbal commitments for the Syracuse Orange football program but clearly the fun's not over just because it's Monday. Harlem HS (Illinois) defensive end Joshua Black gave his verbal today following a visit to campus over the weekend after having de-commited from Illinois last week.
"I felt like family all along," Black told CuseNation.com. "I've known the coaching staff since I was offered by Bowling Green in the summer and they haven't stopped contacting me since. They are not like the coaches that only contacted me when I decommitted, they were always showing effort and I appreciated that.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder is rated three stars by 247, Rivals and Scout. 247 says he's the No. 69 strong-side defensive end in the Class of 2016 while Scout ranks him as the 73rd-best DE in the Class. Impressive for a guy who has only played football for one year. He has offers from Illinois, Bowling Green, Toledo and Ball State, amongst others.
Given the state of the SU defensive line, we need all the help we can get. Black seems like the prototypical kind of guy to be able to plug in there. Given his lack of experience he's probably going to need some time to get up to speed but he's got the potential to make an impact.
Blessed to say I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Syracuse! #GoOrange #DomeDudes #Syracuse pic.twitter.com/EWse2IsbGL
