Syracuse Women's Basketball: SU Thrashes Pitt for 3rd ACC Win

Syracuse defeats Pittsburg for the 9th consecutive time. Orange move to 3-1 in ACC.

The Orange earn another victory in ACC play against the Pitt Panthers on Thursday, January 14th. Syracuse's record is now 13-4 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. Syracuse is also 3-0 at home in conference games now. This game showed perseverance from the Orange. Usual starter Alexis Peterson played less than a minute, due to illness, yet SU still won 71-48. This proves the depth of this Orange team, as Peterson has been one of the best players on the team this season.

Another thing the Orange proved is that they can win big without making a high volume of 3-pointers. Syracuse shot 6-32 from the perimeter, an 18.8% mark. If SU can maintain a better 3-point shooting percentage, they can take down anyone in the ACC. However, in some games, they may not need it.

Briana Day led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds, her 3rd double-double on the year. She really stepped up, with the absence of Alexis Peterson, leading the team in both points and rebounds. Maggie Morrison also eased the loss of Peterson, playing 29 minutes in the backcourt, and scoring 12 points.

Syracuse forced 26 turnovers, just around their season average. This has been one of SU's keys to success this season, particularly in the ACC. They rank third in the country in turnovers forced per game at around 25.

Syracuse's next game is at Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest. The game is on Sunday, January 17th, at 2 pm. The Demon Deacons are 9-8 overall and 0-4 in the ACC. They are not a projected tournament team this year.
