The MLS Superdraft is a chance for MLS teams to restock their ranks with young, college talent and over the last couple of years, that has meant a lot of Orange getting a shot at the American league.
This year, Julian Buescher and Ben Polk continued to carry the 'Cuse flag in the MLS when both were selected in the first round.
Buescher was selected 11th overall by DC United.Buescher's role in the Orange's run through the NCAA's only raised his stock even higher. At 23 with German pedigree, his creativity was on full display. He picked up a knock after just 30 minutes at the combine, but the limited showing still showed off all of the skills that made him a high pick. DC United needed creativity in the midfield and it looks like they got it. I would say there's more than a decent chance he gets a chance to start this season.
Polk was selected 20th overall by the defending champions Portland Timbers. While Polk struggled at the 9 role during combine drills, he will still have plenty of opportunities to impress. He was very effective out wide in limited action at the combine and that's where Portland has a hole. He'll have a chance to play with Portland's fixture list filling up as defending champions qualified for the CONCAF Cup.
With the No. 20 pick, we select forward Ben Polk in the #SuperDraft. #RCTID
