SU doesn't like the word "can't" - Carrier Dome soft roof COULD be replaced. But it's not practical or feasible. So, it won't be.

Those are from local Syracuse news anchor Michael Benny. For the last year, there has been talk about a brand new Syracuse University stadium or a massive renovation project for the Carrier Dome. These tweets seem to indicate that these talks are indeed happening and will have to be acted on.
This is what we definitively know:
Syracuse University has been gathering information about the Carrier Dome from fans and students.
The above photo (shown below for more detail) is from a proposed plan to renovate the Dome and area around it.
Is this the plan for the Dome?
We knew a decision was coming sooner rather than later.
I'm not going to go out there and say for sure that any crazy renovations are happening. First, because there's no proof (yet) and secondly, I have a feeling we'll be getting our answers soon.
What I do know is this: Any kind of renovation project would take enough time that at least one Syracuse sport that calls the Dome home would be displaced. This means that there are a lot of people who need to do a lot of planning before we get to hear of a finished plan. If we do hear something soon, it's been in the works a long time and not done on the whim of Doc Gross, Mark Coyle, Chancellor Syverud etc.
The university has provided a sort of reaction to the rumors that indicate something will happen, and it will be part of several other initiatives that take place around the Hill:
Senior VP for Public Affairs says no decision on the Carrier Dome's future has been made, it is one piece of campus master plan. #Syracuse

We'll just have to wait and see. Start wild speculation below...
***UPDATE 5:00 PM EST***
Alex Dunbar, take it away.
Syracuse University believes the Carrier Dome is the last air supported domed roof stadium in North America, technology is outdated

So again, not a whole lot of confirmed details coming from SU. We'll keep you updated as more information comes out.
