Name: Kenterius Womack
Hometown: Luverne, Ala.
High School: Luverne
2014 Stats: None to be found, but he did throw for 27 touchdowns and rush for 11 more in three seasons playing quarterback at Luverne.
2015 Projections: We saw AJ Long step in and play for much of last season, but it's unlikely another true freshman will have to do the same in 2015. Don't expect to see Womack right away.
How'd He Get Here?: Chose Syracuse despite offers from Connecticut, Army, Nevada and others.
What Did Recruiting Sites Say?: Not rated by Scout or Rivals. Three stars from 247. Because Womack played in such a small town, schools didn't even notice him until very late in the recruiting process.
Money Quote: Shafer on Womack, when he saw Syracuse snow for the first time:
"He said coach, 'This is beautiful to me. I've never seen anything like this.' It was like music to my ears."
Links Of Wonder: The story on how Womack landed at Syracuse despite coming from a small Alabama town.
Tweets Of Wonder: It looks like Womack, who also played baseball in high school, tossed a no-no last season.
First no hitter of the year! Chasing that diamond on the diamond ⚾️ love my team I swear! pic.twitter.com/tm7lF1HkeE— ʞɔɐɯoʍ snıɹǝʇuǝʞ (@KenteriusWomack) April 10, 2015
What Does Shafer Think Of Him?: Shafer on guards and centers coach Joe Adams seeing Womack's highlights for the first time. And then we get Shafer's reaction, too:
"He watched three or four plays of the kid and said, 'Wow, this kid's talented,' and he sent it to (offensive coordinator) Tim Lester. Tim Lester got it and showed me the video tape and I said, 'OK, something's wrong. This kid is far too talented not to be getting recruited by anybody.'"
Interesting Nugget O' Interest: Womack, as noted above, was a two-sport athlete in high school. He also switched from wide receiver to quarterback as a sophomore, and Lester said last month that it's possible Womack could switch positions at the college level. Womack is clearly quite the athlete.
